Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital Brain Injury Recovery Center deploys a team of skilled Speech Language Pathologists (SLP), Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT) and Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) to reach patient improvement outcomes. SLP and OT staff focus on improving cognitive issues such as attention deficits, concentration problems, sensory/spatial/ perceptual function, language, memory, logic and reasoning. PT works to correct common post-brain injury disturbances including balance problems, ataxia and gait discrepancies, as well as accompanying musculoskeletal deficits. Patient and family counseling is provided by LPC specialists with a focus on improving emotional problems, depression, behavioral disorders and coping skills.
The Brain Injury Recovery Center is an outpatient program for patients with mild to moderate acquired brain injuries. Program goals are centered on improving independence and awareness, with special emphasis on vocational and domestic task rehabilitation.
Patient diagnoses may include:
- Closed head injury
- Concussion, post-concussion syndrome
- Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA/Stroke)
- Trauma with loss of consciousness
- Minor head trauma without loss of consciousness
- Anoxic brain injury
- Chemical exposure
- Electric shock
- Skull fracture or penetrating head injury
Our interdisciplinary team evaluates patients for candidacy through a comprehensive set of admission criteria:
- Brain injury or illness resulting in cognitive impairment
- Cognitive impairment of mild to moderate severity and appropriate for outpatient treatment
- Medical stability without support devices such as ventilation, artificial feeding, catheters, etc.
- No behavioral disturbances resulting in violence towards others or suicidal tendencies
Health Insurance
Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital Brain Injury Recovery Center will make every effort to accept all PPO insurance, even if we are not considered a preferred provider.
In many cases, we will accept the patient’s in-network benefits with no penalty to the patient for coming to a non-network facility.
