Am I a Candidate for a Total Joint Replacement?
If you’re experiencing persistent pain, difficulty with daily activities, or reduced mobility despite conservative treatments, you may be a candidate for a joint replacement. Common reasons include:
- Arthritis (including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis)
- Sports-related injuries such as fractures, dislocations, or severe soft tissue damage
- Conditions like osteonecrosis
- Hip dysplasia (hip joint malformation)
- Joint damage from trauma or injury that hasn’t responded to other treatments
- When non-surgical methods—such as medication, physical therapy, activity modifications—do not provide sufficient pain relief or functional improvement
Our team can help determine if joint replacement is suitable for your specific needs and lifestyle.
A joint replacement can provide many years of improved functioning. Multi-center trial studies with thousands of patients show excellent long-term benefits from joint replacement.
In patients 55 years and older who undergo a total knee replacement, 93 percent still have proper function 20 years later. For total hip replacements, 95 percent are still functioning well after 20 years.
